Ankle-brachial Index (ABI) and Pulse Volume Recordings (PVR)
This straightforward test compares your arm’s blood pressure to your leg’s blood pressure at multiple levels and evaluates the quality of the pulsations. This assists in diagnosing and locating blockages.
Duplex Vascular Ultrasound
A common technique that utilizes ultrasonic sound waves to aid in visualizing the arteries and measuring blood flow.
Cone-Beam CT Angiography with 360 degree 3-D Imaging
The OEC 3D is an advanced 3D C-arm that provides both 3D and 2D imaging flexibility, making it a versatile and efficient choice for a wide range of clinical applications. This technology is particularly beneficial in fields such as orthopedics, spine, as well as cardiac and vascular surgery.
The OEC 3D employs GE Healthcare’s AW image fabric technology, providing an exceptional 3D imaging experience. The Volume Viewer suite of 3D imaging tools includes advanced features like Multi-Oblique Mode, window leveling, zooming, and the ability to analyze all 512 slices for detailed image analysis. By utilizing the cutting-edge GE OEC 3D, Broadway Vascular can continue to lead the way in healthcare.
Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS)
Intravascular Ultrasound is a technique that employs real-time ultrasound within a blood vessel. A catheter is fitted with an ultrasound apparatus that picks up images via sound waves as it travels through the vascular system. IVUS provides a 360-degree panoramic view inside the blood vessel, revealing plaque formation on the arterial wall. This enables Dr. Broadway to comprehend the changes that occur in your vessels prior to and following treatment. Due to the detailed imagery provided by intravascular ultrasound, doctors can see the vessel interior and plaque in real-time, which is beneficial for determining vessel diameter for educational and interventional purposes. IVUS is a minimally invasive and advanced form of medical technology that provides the best imaging for the detection and documentation of peripheral vascular disease.
Image-Guided Minimally Invasive Surgery
Angiography with Atherectomy, Angioplasty, and Stenting
Minimally invasive surgery is a modern technique that allows surgeons to limit the size and number of incisions or cuts needed to perform surgery. Compared to traditional open surgery, it is generally considered safer as it results in a faster recovery and less discomfort. In open surgery, the surgeon makes one large incision to access the area they need to operate on. However, minimally invasive surgery is performed through a small needle without any notable incisions.
All Vascular procedures at Broadway Vascular are performed with this minimally invasive technique. Broadway Vascular specializes in treating narrow or obstructed blood vessels with various methods. Atherectomy, also known as the “roto-rooter device,” is a technique that involves removing plaque from an artery, creating more space for blood to flow. Another technique is angioplasty, which involves inflating a balloon inside the artery to open it up. Stenting is a procedure only used as a last resort to reestablish proper blood flow. It involves inserting a short wire mesh tube into the artery during the procedure, which is left permanently to allow blood to flow more freely.
Renal Artery Ablation
Renal denervation, known as renal ablation, is a minimally invasive procedure performed at Broadway Vascular. This procedure is used primarily to treat hypertension that has not responded to other treatments. Patients who undergo this procedure usually experience lower blood pressure. They further reduce the risk of heart failure, kidney disease, and stroke. In many cases, patients can significantly reduce their hypertension medication dosage or even stop taking medication altogether after undergoing this treatment.
Your brain, heart, and kidneys send messages throughout your body to regulate your blood pressure. However, when these nerves become overactive, they can increase your blood pressure. Renal denervation helps to reduce the activity of the renal nerves in the kidneys, which lowers blood pressure. During the procedure, a catheter used sends either ultrasound or radiofrequency (heat) energy to the renal arteries, the blood vessels that supply blood to the kidneys. This energy destroys (ablates) the renal nerves without damaging the arteries. As a result, nerve activity reduced, leading to a drop in blood pressure.
Spinal Cord Stimulation
Neuromodulation therapy uses targeted electrical stimulation or medication to the central, peripheral, or autonomic nervous system to relieve pain. Spinal cord stimulation has been a treatment option for pain for over 50 years. Painful diabetic neuropathy affects approximately 15-25% of people with diabetes, and conventional medical management, including medications, often does not work for many patients. Broadway Vascular is proud to offer Spinal cord stimulation as an option for patients who have not found relief with conventional methods. The therapy involves placing a device under the skin to deliver electrical stimulation to the spinal cord, which blocks pain signals to the brain. It is similar to what a pacemaker does for the heart. It’s important to note that spinal cord stimulation does not treat the underlying vascular pathology. Instead, it manages pain by dampening the signal to the brain. If you have not found relief with conventional methods, contact Broadway Vascular to learn more about this therapy and further evaluate your options.
Embolization
Embolization is a minimally invasive procedure involving small particles, such as gelatin sponges or beads, to block a blood vessel. The purpose of embolization is to stop bleeding or prevent blood flow to an abnormal tissue or tumor. This method is commonly used to treat various health conditions such as liver cancer, kidney cancer, and neuroendocrine tumors. At Broadway Vascular, embolization is used to treat a variety of ailments such as uterine fibroids, benign prostatic hyperplasia, knee pain, cancer, and bleeding bowel, among others.
Ailments We Treat
Diabetic neuropathy
Diabetic neuropathy is a type of nerve damage that can occur due to high blood sugar levels in people with diabetes. This condition commonly affects the feet and legs, and its symptoms can range from mild leg and foot pain to more severe issues such as cardiac problems, digestive problems, urinary problems, blood vessel problems, and muscle weakness. Almost 30% of patients with diabetes are estimated to be affected by diabetic neuropathy.
Broadway Vascular specializes in minimally invasive treatments to treat narrow and blocked arteries. Their innovative technique focuses on restoring and improving blood flow to the affected area. The procedure carefully revascularizes the lateral plantar artery and loop, which promotes the regeneration of nerves, reduces neuropathic pain, and enhances overall muscle strength and function. Dr. Broadway’s expertise in this minimally invasive procedure has helped numerous patients avoid the devastating consequences of amputation.
During the procedure, Dr. Broadway utilizes advanced surgical techniques to ensure precision and optimal outcomes. By restoring blood flow to the affected area, the damaged nerves have an opportunity to heal and regenerate. This revascularization process improves oxygen and nutrient supply to the tissues, promoting the overall health of the affected limb.
Foot ulcers
Foot ulcers are open sores or lesions that do not heal or return over time. These sores can develop on your feet and ankles due to the breakdown of skin and tissues, and they can become infected. Symptoms of foot ulcers may include swelling, burning, and pain. The depth of a foot ulcer can range from shallow to deep, and it usually begins as a red crater that looks like a dimple. Once infected, it can develop drainage, pus, and a foul odor. If you have diabetes and notice any changes in the color of your feet, significant hair loss, or open sores, we highly recommend that you consult Broadway Vascular immediately. They can perform a thorough examination of your feet and arteries to help manage or treat the condition. At Broadway Vascular, saving limbs is our top priority.
Fibroids
Did you know that fibroids are non-cancerous growths that form in or around the uterus? Although many women with fibroids do not experience any symptoms, some may suffer from excessive menstrual bleeding or pelvic discomfort. Fortunately, Broadway Vascular offers a solution to help alleviate these symptoms. Through a procedure called Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE), tiny particles are inserted into the arteries that supply blood to the fibroids. This will reduce their blood supply and cause them to shrink, resulting in smaller and less symptomatic fibroids. By contacting Broadway Vascular today, you can say goodbye to the inconvenience and discomfort caused by fibroids and improve your quality of life!
Hemorrhoids
Hemorrhoids, also known as piles, are a group of enlarged veins located in the rectum and anus. They can cause discomfort, rectal bleeding, and pain. Although hemorrhoids are present in all of us at birth, they usually don’t cause any problems until they become swollen and inflamed. Fortunately, there is a minimally invasive treatment option for this condition called Embolization. This treatment involves inserting small particles into the arteries that supply blood to the hemorrhoids, which restricts their blood supply and causes them to shrink in size. This treatment can result in less symptomatic hemorrhoids, which can significantly improve your quality of life. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, we strongly recommend that you schedule an appointment with us.
Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a condition that causes joint pain and dysfunction; caused by the gradual loss of cartilage and changes in the bones in joints. While OA was once thought to be a result of wear and tear, it is now known to be a complex disease with a strong inflammatory component. Knee OA is the primary cause of disability in older adults, particularly women aged 50 or older. The knee, hips, and hand joints are most commonly affected, causing stiffness, swelling, and severe knee pain. Our team is highly experienced and skilled at diagnosing OA through physical examinations, laboratory tests, and minimally invasive treatments.
At Broadway Vascular, we offer a minimally invasive treatment called Genicular Artery Embolization (GAE) that can alleviate knee pain and improve knee function. This procedure reduces blood flow to the synovium, providing both immediate and long-term pain relief for OA patients. Don’t let OA control your life. Let us help you regain your mobility and live without pain.
BPH – Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia
Are you having trouble urinating or frequently urinating during the day? Do you experience disturbed sleep at night due to urination? These are some of the most common symptoms of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). This condition occurs due to the enlargement of the prostate gland and can be difficult to detect since many of its symptoms are not clear or may be mistaken for other conditions. Don’t suffer in silence and take action today! Schedule an appointment with Broadway Vascular to discuss the best way to manage your condition and get back to living your life to the fullest.
Varicocele
Varicocele is a condition that may cause difficulty in conceiving for you and your partner. It occurs when a vein in the scrotum enlarges, leading to reduced sperm production and low sperm quality, which can result in infertility. Varicoceles are very common, and they are not dangerous. About 15% of all adult men have a varicocele. For many men, their varicocele will go unnoticed throughout their lives, or it will not cause any problems. About 20% of adolescents have varicoceles, so a fraction are likely to resolve spontaneously. Varicoceles can cause three main problems: impaired fertility, decreased testosterone production by the testis, or scrotal discomfort. If veins develop thrombophlebitis (blood clotting and inflammation), varicoceles may cause more severe pain. If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, make an appointment with Broadway Vascular, who can discuss available treatment options.
Pelvic Congestion
Pelvic Congestion Syndrome is a medical condition where varicose veins develop around the ovaries, similar to the legs. Due to malfunctioning valves in the veins, blood flow is affected, and the veins become engorged or “congested,” leading to pain and discomfort. The primary symptom of PCS is pelvic pain. The pain usually worsens during the day, especially for women who sit or stand for long hours, and get better after a night of rest. The pain can also intensify during or after intercourse, around menstrual periods, or after specific physical activities such as bicycling or horseback riding. This condition’s discomfort and pain can significantly affect your quality of life; hence it is essential to seek medical attention if you experience pelvic pain. Contact Broadway Vascular; with proper diagnosis and treatment, you can manage your symptoms and reduce the impact of pelvic congestion syndrome on your life.
Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile dysfunction is a common problem that affects men all over the world. Multiple local studies have shown that the prevalence of ED is more than 40% among males in different regions such as Arabic countries, Africa, Asia, China, the USA, and Russia. This issue often occurs due to risk factors and medical complications that have a negative impact on the cardiovascular system. Major risk factors for ED include diabetes, kidney disease, high blood pressure, heart disease, and smoking.
At Broadway Vascular, we specialize in diagnosing and treating Erectile Dysfunction in order to restore the erection process for men. This allows for a better quality of life.
Renovascular Hypertension
Renovascular hypertension is a medical condition that is caused by the narrowing of the renal artery due to atherosclerosis (plaque buildup in arteries) or fibromuscular dysplasia (abnormal growth in the artery walls leading to the kidneys). The factors that increase the risk of atherosclerosis include high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol, heavy alcohol use, cocaine abuse, and increasing age. The symptoms of renovascular hypertension are very high blood pressure, high blood pressure at a young age, poor kidney function, narrowed arteries, and pulmonary edema.
Broadway Vascular provides an innovative approach to treat patients with resistant or hard-to-treat hypertension. If you are suffering from renovascular hypertension, contact us today to learn more about our treatment options.
Peripheral Arterial Disease
PAD, or Peripheral Arterial Disease, is a severe condition that can lead to serious complications if left undiagnosed or untreated. It is caused by the narrowing or blockage of the arteries that supply oxygen-rich blood to the lower limbs, which can cause reduced blood flow to the limbs and lead to atherosclerosis – a buildup of fatty deposits and calcium in the walls of the arteries.
Fortunately, by making simple lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, and engaging in regular exercise, you can reduce the risk of developing PAD. Early detection and intervention are key to managing this condition effectively. If you are experiencing any symptoms of PAD, such as leg pain or cramping, be sure to discuss them with your healthcare provider right away.
Remember, taking care of your overall health and well-being is essential to preventing PAD and other related conditions. By making positive changes to your lifestyle, you can take control of your health and reduce your risk of developing this serious condition.
